Public Agency Lawyers

L+G, LLP is experienced on both sides of Public Agency and Education Law. With our offices in Salinas, Hollister, Monterey, King City, and Paso Robles, our clients are frequently private companies and individuals; however, we have developed an expertise in the public agency side of the law as well.

The firm currently acts as a contract City Attorney and represents several school agencies in general or special counsel capacities. In addition to our current representations, our firm’s attorneys have significant experience representing municipal, healthcare and other special districts, public utilities, and education agencies.

The role of City Attorney encompasses a full range of municipal law practice, which includes the preparation of ordinances, contracts, leases, Code updates and other legal documents. A City Attorney can also provide legal services to all city departments and serves as general legal counsel to the Planning Commission, and other boards and commissions of the City.

Attorney E. Soren Diaz has several years of experience representing cities, school districts and offices and boards of education in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties.

Legal opinions may be requested when it becomes necessary to verify the legal status of any proposed or existing School District policy or procedure, or in the solution of other District problems. The complexity of school district operations often requires the attainment of professional legal services. Consequently, a school district may bring on board an attorney or law firm for purposes of systematically securing such services.

Because of L+G’s considerable experience as both general and special counsel for public agencies throughout the state of California, our attorneys have earned significant expertise in a variety of legal fields. We have a solid understanding of the legal aspects of various areas of law that public agencies frequently deal with and the additional considerations that public agencies face that private clients do not. These concerns can include:

  • Prevailing wage rules
  • Collective bargaining
  • Administrative liability
  • Civil rights violations
  • Land use planning

Specifically, our firm has experience representing public agencies for a wide array of issues including collective bargaining negotiations, redevelopment, right of way acquisition, and compliance with state and federal regulatory schemes like:

  • The California Environmental Quality Act
  • The National Environmental Protection Act
  • The Brown Act
  • The California Public Records Act

L+G attorneys are also experts in leasing, construction, and permitting matters for local, state, and federal projects with experience in representing public agencies, private clients and insurance clients in all aspects of public law and litigation.
